Medicare

Medicare divides diabetic coverage between Part B (Medical) and Part D (Drugs) based on the type of supply:

A. Medicare Part B (Durable Medical Equipment)

Supplies: Blood sugar monitors, test strips, lancets, and lancet devices.

Equipment: Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) and non-disposable insulin pumps.

Cost: Generally 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after you meet your Part B deductible.

B. Medicare Part D (Rx Drugs)

Supplies: Syringes, needles, alcohol swabs, and gauze used for insulin injections.

Both Part B and Part D cap the cost of a one-month supply of covered insulin at $35.
